ARTIST STATEMENT:
The described illustration is inspired by the Indian sage Ramana Maharshi, who, although he was a great sage, still had a great sense of humor (or so it is said about him). Among the stories that are told about him is that his pupils asked why he sat down in a place where there were ants. Ants are living creatures, after all, and a sage should not hurt them. Ramana Maharshi allegedly replied that he had of course told the ants his intention in advance, but that the ants had not listened to him. This illustration imagines what Ramana Maharshi would be like at a contemporary children's party full of balloons and striped patterns.

NOTE REGARDING THE PHOTO OF THE ILLUSTRATION:
Photographs are taken in daylight, but sometimes also in artificial light, which can affect the displayed shade/tone of colors and the overall color tonality/atmosphere of the image. There may be reflections of light and shadow, and other slight irregularities in photographic reproduction. This may cause a minimal (and unintentionally caused) difference between the photographic reproduction and the original.
